Can manual and automatic engines be inter changeable?

I have a manual 1995 Mitsubishi galant. The head is missing! I found the same year engine but it is an automatic. Will it fit on my manual transmission? Can manual and automatic engines be inter changeable?Absolutely as long as the engines are exactly the same otherwise. Can manual and automatic engines be inter changeable?
before you try check the engine codes on the engines and then check the capacity as ford engines OHC 1.6's and the 2.0 liter ones can be interchanged but the cylinder heads are different, but the fittings from the 1.6 fitted straight on the 2.0 liter and it worked for a long time,so they may look alike but check out the coding, on fords it was cast in the block 16 or 20 so you could see immediatly which is which, but apart from the radiator on the auto being bigger and the torque convertor on the flywheel plate,it should fit hope this is helpful and good luck. Can manual and automatic engines be inter changeable?Would it be cheaper to just replace the head? If not you should contact Mitsubishi tech and they will tell you if it is possible just give them the vin of the engine with the automatic and the vin of the engine in the car. I think it is possible just a few modifications. Can manual and automatic engines be inter changeable?
I don't know if it would fit without any modifications. But it is possible. There a re a lot of Mitsubishi aficionado sites out there. That would be a good place to start.
