The only recently made films I recall even touching on passing are _Devil in a Blue Dress_ (1995) with Denzel Washington and Jennifer Beals, which is set in the late 40s, but like _The Human Stain_, is not an independent film, and two TV miniseries set in the long past: _Queenie_ (1987) (about Merle Oberon) and _Queen_ (1993) (by Alex Haley, starring Halle Berry).
