Are raid 5 hard drives inter dependent on each other?

I'm thinking of buying a Netgear ReadyNAS.

In Raid 5, if I pull one of the hard drives, will the data be available in that hard drive or are the hard drives are dependent on each other? Are raid 5 hard drives inter dependent on each other? If you remove one hard drive from a RAID 5 array, the array will continue to function normally with reduced performance. This is called a 'degraded' RAID array.

The NAS device can calculate the missing data on the removed hard drive from the remaining hard drive. The array will continue to work but performance will suffer. If another hard drive fails though, the array is totally lost.

When you replace the failed hard drive, the NAS device will begin rebuilding the array. This will cause performance to be really low as the array will be quite busy. But no data will be lost so long as no drives fail until the rebuild is complete. When the rebuild finishes, full performance and redundancy will be restored to the array.

As for looking at the data on a single drive, it will be largely nonsense. If you have a four drive RAID 5 array, the drive contains 1/3 of each stripe. So there will be bits of data, but that's about it.Are raid 5 hard drives inter dependent on each other? If you pull a drive out of a Raid 5 Array (you have to have more than 3 disks in the array) you will recover the data when new drive is replaced into the system of the same size. If you leave the drive out, this can cause failures The dependency is based upon the drives next to it in the array. These are rebuildable arrays when one middle drive failes (even and end) the next drives to it also contain the data. Are raid 5 hard drives inter dependent on each other?Raid 5 can have 1 hard drive loss out of 3. Performance takes a hit but if you don't need speed, its good for data loss.

They all work as one drive, but can have 1 failure (more than 1 drive can fail if you have a large bank of them). Are raid 5 hard drives inter dependent on each other?
go look up the diffrent RAIDs (1-5) and see if RAID 5 has redundancy or not. I beleive all but RAID 1 have some sort of redundancy so i would assume it would work.
