The core 2 duo quad doesn't use this type of technology. It only has 4 streams.
Plus the i7 has a faster core in general.What is better or faster the intel i7 processor or the inter core 2 duo quad core processor?i7, because it can throttle cores down and throttle the other cores up for better performance in processes that are running... Also the x58 boards that are specifically used for the i7 are triple channel memory, not dual channel like the old x48 and P45 platforms for the extreme quads. Also the extremes were always overpriced from day one until now.... The only advantage that extreme ever had was more L2 cache, which never developed into a major advantage because programs really didn't start gearing for it... The i7 potentially settled the argument about which is better dual core or quad core, as it can overclock 2 cores and idle the other cored down that aren't being used.
The only hold back to the i7 is the motherboard manufactures working out the bugs with their boards. Like the beginning of computers there will always be bios updates and driver upgrades. Also operating systems moving forwards to work and function better with the new series...
