Everyone need to accept religion is a private thing. You believe whatever you want to believe in and let me do the same within the confines of my own home.



I used to be a great believer in the French secular system, which forbids the state to have any involvement whatsoever with religious things. That has a lot of ramifications. For a few examples. Never would you see a French president weave God into his speeches. No "God bless France" or "God has put us through difficult trials, but with His help, we'll get though" or any of that. All religious signs are banned from all public institutions. Workers in the public services cannot wear them or speak about religion while at work. In public schools, teachers are forbidden to teach religion - except within the confines of the state approved History of religions section of the History curriculum - and pupils are banned from wearing ostentatious religious signs (a small cross, David's star or Fatma's hand hanging around your neck is fine, though it is recommended you keep it under your clothes, but t-shirts saying "I love Jesus", muslim headscarves and such are forbidden). The state also cannot fund any religious activity - although the state actually does fund for the preservation of most Catholic churches and cathedrals, the reason for that being that these actually belong to the state of France as they were confiscated from the Catholic Church shortly after the Revolution. The point of all this is that the people should be kept from any kind of religious promotion coming from the state of France and the state should not be seen to favour any one religion.



I find in practice, this has worked very well for two centuries, until Sarkozy came in power and messed it up by deviating from the original purpose and using the secularism law (Laicite, we call it) for some of what I consider to be his fascistic agenda. The most recent example was the banning of the full Muslim dress that covers women's face. Not that I personally believe women should be covering their faces and bodies like that, but this ban has gone way outside what is constitutional and is infringing on people's personal liberties, by taking the ban outside the state's turf (official administrations, public institutions) and into the streets, where it really has no jurisdiction on what people wear. Once we've taken it to the streets, where does it stop? Will we close down Muslim dress shops? Ban it from people's own homes? Shall we move on to other pieces of clothings next, after the full veil, the hijab and nun's outfits? And then mini-skirts under the pretence of saving women from being seen as objects (which is already sort of the justification for the full veil ban)?

I really hope he loses the elections next year, but I'm afraid the damage he's doing to the French psyche is gonna take long to heal.How inter religious harmony is possible when some religions openly say other religions worshipping false Gods?It is exactly like the pride of the people owning a Nuclear reactor, forgetting how fragile/insecure are their foundations! When the base collapses, they would have wasted 60 years of false pride!!
Not all people of any one group say this. The remnant of that group can talk with the others.
