Where on inter net can I do a free car history check and to see if it has been stolen?

I want to buy this car ! the guy is from out of state (OHIO) and the car is in very good condition for his price and he keeps dropping the price when I tell him I can not get the money at this time.Where on inter net can I do a free car history check and to see if it has been stolen? No need to use the internet. You can call your local police, they'll run a VIN check on it. They won't give you any other info on the car, but will let you know if it comes back as "stolen".Where on inter net can I do a free car history check and to see if it has been stolen?I would be less concerned about the car being stolen. They may very well be able to produce a valid title, but that's not going to protect you from getting scammed. If this is a craigslist ad, forget it and find a local car. Every day there are several scams posted there. If there is no phone number posted in the ad, they only deal with "escrow" services and/or there are odd hoops to jump through, run for the hills.

As far as searching DMV records, don't pester the police with this task. They have more important things to do. Get yourself the unlimited Carfax subscription instead. You can search as many cars as you want in a month for $29. You won't regret it.Where on inter net can I do a free car history check and to see if it has been stolen?Nowhere for free. CarFax isn't free. If you suspect it's stolen, you can ask him to fax a copy of the title to you. If he won't do it, walk away. I would not buy a car from someone out of state without seeing the car AND the title. It sounds like some kind of scam.
