Could be because of the cross border rivalry,or where players of the same nation stick together.

At one time it used to be the same with religion in Glasgow.

Players of one religion went to Celtic, whilst players of the other went to Rangers. The religions concerned were Catholic and Protestant. I think Graeme Souness broke that taboo by signing Maurice Johnston for Rangers, having previously played for Celtic.

Ronaldinho and Kaka grew up in the same neighbourhood.

And for Inter, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Burdisso, all play(ed) on the Argentina National with eachother.
