How much is it from Paris to Istanbul by train, one way? Which is cheaper, normal tickets or inter-rail pass?

Tracing the route of the famed Orient Express is a great adventure. I guess the first thing you need to decide is whether you want to do it by luxury tourist train, costing at least US$9,190 per person double-occupancy, or if you want to travel by regular European trains, costing as little as 拢350, or 拢275, if you're under 26.

If you want to go for the luxury option, it's fairly straight-forward to book online at http://www.orient-express.com/web/vsoe/j鈥?/a> .

If you want to use the budget option, which is much more of an adventure, anyways, and can still be quite luxurious if you opt for private bedrooms all the way, go to http://www.seat61.com/Turkey.htm to see a detailed guide. This guide assumes you're starting in London, but if you're starting in Paris you can just ignore the first section on taking the Eurostar.

The Man in Seat 61 is great at giving detailed accounts that provide both insight into what the trip is like, as well as details on prices, how to book, and what visas are required.

Enjoy your trip! How much is it from Paris to Istanbul by train, one way? Which is cheaper, normal tickets or inter-rail pass? The basic second class single seat fare is about 310 euros one way (Paris - Vienna, 鈧?69.60, Vienna - Istanbul, 鈧?40.80), but you will spend more if you book couchettes or sleepers, though you'd also need to pay those fees if you were travelling on a pass (I certainly wouldn't like to travel in the same seat for 3 or 4 days!).

The routing is Paris - Vierzon - Le Locle (border) - La Chaux de Fonds - Zurich - Buchs SG (border) - Feldkirch - Innsbruck - Vienna - Hegyeshalom (border) - Budapest - Subotica (border) - Belgrade - Dimitrovgrad (border) - Sofia - Plovdiv - Kapikule (border) - Edirne - Istanbul Sirkeci.
